2012年8月，日本京都大学的望月新一教授在自己的网站上发表了“对ABC猜想进行证明”的论文，引起了很大反响。该论文是一篇以《宇宙际泰希米勒理论（IUT理论））为题使用IUT理论对ABC猜想进行证明。论文在经历了8年多的同行评议后，于2021年4月刊登在数学专业期刊PRIMS上。
